Binghamton - The Carousel Capital of the World

Greater Binghamton has the only carousel collection of this kind in the world. Of the fewer than 170 antique carousels remaining in the United States and Canada, six are in Greater Binghamton, New York. Because of the uniqueness of these carousels and the incomparable circumstances of their survival and existence, all six are placed on the New York State Historic Register and the National Register of Historic Places. Phelps Mansion Museum
The Phelps Mansion Museum was built in 1870 for Sherman D. Phelps, a local Binghamton businessman.  The Phelps Mansion is now a historic house museum, an exceptional example of the outstanding ability of Perry to coordinate into the design, beautiful rare woods, metal, and glass in the interior of the house. A beautiful Baccarat crystal chandelier from 1890 adorns the ballroom while rare chandeliers in other rooms are reminiscent of the Victorian period. Viewing the outside of the Museum, the mansard roof and cresting as well as the iron fence highlight the exterior of the museum.
